The MET Mark | Product Safety Certification for the US & Canada

Cost-effective Product Safety Certification for the US & Canada

黑料社区 York (formerly York EMC Services) operates as part of the IECEE CB Scheme as a聽CB Test Laboratory (CBTL)聽for聽safety testing聽of electrical and electronic components, equipment and products.

Under the IECEE CB scheme you can use your CB report to gain MET Labs Certification and apply the MET mark to your product(s) for access to North America and Canada.

This can either be carried out in conjunction with testing for other global regions or in isolation. We recommend however, that you electrical safety test your product(s) for all the global regions you will supply into at the same time to eliminate duplication of effort and reduce overall costs.

The MET Mark indicates that the product has met the minimum requirements of the applicable safety standards, and validates the product鈥檚 continued compliance to these standards as evidenced by periodic factory follow up inspections.

United States

聽was the first Nationally Recognised Test Laboratory (NRTL) in the United States for testing and certifying products to the UL safety standards. The MET Mark is acceptable under Federal law for products used in the workplace throughout the United States. In addition, the MET Mark has also been approved by states, cities, counties and other jurisdictions nationwide that maintain their own standards for product certifications.

Canada

MET Labs is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada for approval throughout Canada.

Factory Audits

In the United States, in order to maintain a Safety Mark there is a requirement for an ongoing programme of factory audits to be included in the certification process.

As part of the MET Labs certification process we can perform factory audits at your premises.

What does a MET Lab Factory Audit involve?

  • The process starts with a Pre-Certification Factory Inspection (PCFI) at the manufacturer鈥檚 premises with the safety test report and the manufacturer鈥檚 quality system forming the basis of the audit
  • Follow up audits occur regularly and are unannounced 鈥渟urprise鈥 visits
  • Quarterly inspections occur for products intended for use in hazardous locations
  • All inspections must be completed within a calendar year and typically last 1 鈥 1.5 hrs each
